ADULT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

BSA Adult Application Process for Parents & Guardians

Parents and/or Guardians will need to complete the following items to be registered with BSA to be able to attend any scouting activity. If you are already an ASM, Committee Member, or previously registered parent you do not need to complete these tasks.

The previous “72-hour Rule” no longer applies.

Pay a $80 yearly registration fee.
Complete the following training prior to submitting your registration form and registration fee.

Youth Protection Training (Online)

https://www.scouting.org/training/safeguarding-youth/ - Print out a copy of the certificate and attach it to the BSA Application

AB506 California Mandated Reporter Training (Online)

http://californiascouting.org - Print out a copy of the certificate and attach it to the BSA Application

NOTE: AB506 certificates need to be uploaded onto the Long Beach Area Council’s (LBAC) website. http://www.longbeachbsa.org/training/ab-506/

Fingerprinting & Background Check
- - - Fill out the Request for Live Scan Service form. https://californiascouting.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/BCIA-8016-Request-for-Live-Scan-Service-LBAC-VOLUNTEER.pdf
    - It is critical that you use the LBAC Council's form, as it includes LBAC’s routing information for your background check.
    - Pay a Fingerprint rolling fee of $20-$40 and an FBI Background Check fee ($17) to the Live Scan service provider.

Notify the Training Chair - Email Training Coordinator, Kari Cole, morgankari@hotmail.com with copies of certificates for both AB506 & YPT.

Get Signature from Bob Huss - Contact Bob Huss at bobaaaa@charter.net to get his signature on the application.
Turn in Application and payment to Sandy Van Wyk
- Take completed application (signed by Bob), copies of both AB506 and YPT certificates along with $80 check and turn into Sandy Van Wyk at the Long Beach Council Scout Office: 401 E 37th St, Long Beach, CA 90807

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is an online module training that is administered by Scouts BSA for all registered parents in the United States.
CA Law: AB 506 Training is a result of a recent bill (AB 506) that was passed by the State of California requiring volunteers and staff of Youth Service Organizations to complete training in child abuse and neglect reporting and undergo Live Scan background checks.

AB 506 goes into effect on January 1, 2022. All registered BSA volunteer positions and employees including camp staff must comply with AB506. In addition, other volunteers who are 18 years of age or older and who have direct contact with, or supervision of, children for more than 16 hours a month or 32 hours per year must complete a Live Scan background check (the digital version of inked fingerprinting) and complete online mandated reporter training.

VIRTUS Training is required by our Charter Organization of St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles mandates all clergy, staff, whether paid or volunteer, and all volunteers who work in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, or people with special needs to complete the initial three-hour VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children for Adults™ program.
